Recording controls are simple and immediate:

MP3

The universal standard for sharing audio. MP3 files are small, widely compatible with every device, player, and platform, and ideal for podcasts, voice messages, and anything you plan to send to someone else. MP3 encoding happens in your browser using the open-source lamejs library: no upload required.

WAV

Uncompressed audio at full quality: every sample preserved. WAV files are larger than MP3 but are the professional standard for recordings that will be edited in audio software. Use WAV when quality is paramount and file size is not a concern.

WebM (Original)

The native format captured by your browser's MediaRecorder API. WebM/Opus is highly efficient: excellent quality at small file sizes. Best for playback in modern web browsers.

Voice Enhancement: Built In

A voice enhancement chain runs before the MediaRecorder captures your audio, so the improvement is baked into the recording from the start. Three preset levels are available:
  • Light: a subtle high-pass filter removes low-frequency rumble (desk vibration, HVAC hum) with zero colouring of your voice
  • Medium: adds a gentle presence boost at 2,800 Hz for improved speech clarity and a soft compressor to even out volume variation without pumping artefacts
  • Strong: a deeper presence boost and firmer compression for louder or more variable recording environments
Enhancement is applied in real time via the Web Audio API: no post-processing delay, no quality loss from re-encoding.

Your Recording Library

Every recording you make in the session is saved to an in-browser library. Each recording gets:
  • An inline audio player for immediate playback
  • An editable name so you can label takes and voice notes
  • A download button with all three format options
  • A delete button to remove individual recordings
Recordings are held in memory for the duration of your browser session. When you close the tab, they are gone: nothing is written to disk automatically, so download any recording you want to keep before closing.

The voice recorder is completely free. There is no sign-up, no session limit, no maximum recording length enforced by the tool, and no cap on the number of recordings per session. Everything runs locally in your browser: your audio is never transmitted to our servers, and we log nothing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my audio uploaded to a server?
No. All recordings are captured and stored entirely within your browser tab using the MediaRecorder Web API. Nothing is ever uploaded to any server — not to 123TinyTools, not anywhere. When you close the tab, the recordings are gone.
What audio format is used?
Recordings are saved in WebM (Opus codec) by default - the most efficient browser audio format. Safari saves in M4A. You can also choose OGG. All formats are high-quality and play on modern devices and media players.
Can I record multiple takes?
Yes. Each time you press Record then Stop, a new recording is added to the My Recordings list. You can play back each take, download any of them, or clear the list and start fresh.
How do I get better audio quality?
Use a good microphone or headset. Enable Noise Reduction and Echo Cancellation in Audio Settings for cleaner results. Set Quality to High (256 kbps) for professional recordings. Record in a quiet space to minimise background noise.
The microphone is not working - what do I do?
When you first click Record, your browser asks for microphone permission - click Allow. If you denied it by mistake, click the lock icon in your browser address bar, set Microphone to Allow, then refresh the page.
